Headway Select XV Raise £3,844.50 for Headway Cardiff & South East Wales!

On Friday 22nd October 2021, the Headway Select XV once again took to the field at Cardiff Arms Park to raise crucial funds and awareness to support local brain injury charity, Headway Cardiff and South East Wales.

With the Headway Select XV this time taking on Llanishen RFC, supported by Llanishen U7’s and Rhiwbina U7’s, the event raised a massive £3,844.50!

It was a truly thrilling game of rugby and as always, the players of both teams were extraordinary! With an electric atmosphere and superb dedication from all, the game resulted in a 54-24 win for the Headway Select XV. Well done guys!

Following the game there was a fantastic event night held in the Sir Gareth Edwards Lounge where live music, a raffle and auction took place to help further our fundraising total. I think it’s safe to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the sheer sense of comradeship and togetherness was overwhelming, proving that the #rugbyfamily is like no other.

It’s not only the incredible amount of money raised that will help us support people who have been affected by an acquired brain injury. For us, this event has given us a chance to reach so many more people and raise vital awareness. We are thrilled that the Headway Select XV continue to support our ongoing campaign around concussion in sport.

A very special thank you to official match sponsors, Cadre, as well as all the players, U7’s teams, volunteers, donors and supporters. Thank you to everyone who donated a raffle or auction prize including; Operation Fitness Gym, EST Accountants, Fleet-e, The Indigo Group, Big Moose Cafe (Chloe Smith) and Peak Supps (Jenelle Evans).

We are also so grateful for the hard work and generosity shown by our event photographers Ian Fido (Fidopics) and Dave Mertens (Mertens Photography), along with the superb match announcer, Tom Southgate! Thank you as well to Chris Bray for all your help and the lovely Gareth for the great post-match music (and apologies if you had a headache from all the extra singers!).

This brings the total raised by organiser, Chris Case, to almost £57,000!! – a contribution that quite literally means the world to us here. Chris has championed our cause ever since his wife, Alex, suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2017. Thankfully, Alex has made a full recovery, but Chris and the family know that for many others, the effects of an acquired brain injury can be life changing. It’s this that makes Chris a dedicated supporter of our charity and the work that we do.

Thank You, Chris!
