Welcome to Headway Cardiff and South East Wales
Providing support to over 500 people every year
We are a small local charity working in South Wales which support 500 – 600 people each year who have been affected by an acquired brain injury (ABI).
From our base in Llandough Hospital, our aim is to help people adjust to the life changing effects of ABI, minimising the negative emotional and practical consequences and maximising independence, wellbeing, health and quality of life.
About Headway Cardiff and South East Wales
We began in 1985 as a support group for people with ABI and their families, so they could have continued peer support and be less isolated on their return to their local communities.
Growing slowly from these small beginnings, people with ABI and their families remain at the core of our organisation, with representatives sitting on our board of trustees.
How can I get involved?
We’re looking for someone who can co-ordinate our centre, ensuring sessions runs safely, smoothly, everyone’s needs are met, they have the best experience possible and get the most out of their time with us.
We don’t expect you to have necessarily worked with people with brain injury. You might have a background in teaching, stage management or the service industry. You do need to be empathetic, empowering, compassionate, highly organised, creative, adaptable, with great communication and people skills, and sound judgement and good perspective.
Throughout the week, Monday 13th May to Friday 17th May, the team at Headway Cardiff will be sporting our best hats and we’d love you to take part too!
Step 1. Wear your best hat (silly, biggest, fanciest… who knows!)
Step 2. Take a photo and share it to social media or send it to us at fundraising@headwaycardiff.org.uk
Every hat equals more funding towards our vital support for those affected by brain injury.
