Information and Outreach

Providing help at the most vital stages of someone’s brain injury journey

We help individuals, families and carers access the information and support they are entitled to, at any stage after brain injury.

Adjusting to life after acquired brain injury can bring complex challenges, from the early stages of recovery to navigating the health and social care system. We believe that an increased understanding of brain injury will significantly help a person and their family adapt to the immense changes that brain injury can bring.

Our Information and Outreach Service brings together the advice, advocacy and support that survivors and their families or carers need. Our Information and Outreach Officers are often the first point of contact for people to our charity. They work closely with other services to ensure people are offered information at the earliest opportunity following their brain injury.

This can include :

  • Providing information on the effects of acquired brain injury
  • Providing emotional support
  • Acting as a point of referral for other relevant medical and social care professionals
  • Signposting to other organisations
  • Providing assistance in relation to disability benefits and other practical issues

Who is our Information and Outreach Service for?

What happens in our Information and Outreach Service?

This service is for acquired brain injury survivors, their family members or carers within our catchment area.

It starts with filling out a Referral Form and having an assessment with one of our Information and Outreach officers at Headway Cardiff and South East Wales.

The level and type of help that our Information and Outreach Officers give is different for each person based on the kind of help they need. This is because we want to increase independence and help people to rebuild the parts of their life that matter to them most.

The main aim of this service is to ensure that survivors and families have access to the benefits and support they are entitled to. This means working directly with local authorities or signposting to relevant partners.  There is no set timeframe for how long we will work with a survivor, family member or carer.

We aim to find the right help that will give someone more control in managing their decisions and issues.

Our Information and Outreach Officers provide support over the phone, email and in person at our office at Llandough Hospital, or home visits.
