Cari Sowden-Taylor

Cari has supported Headway since 2006, having run the London Marathon for Headway in 2008 and numerous half marathons for the charity since then. After approximately 7 years on the Fundraising Committee for Headway Cardiff and South East Wales, Cari was appointed as a Trustee in 2022 and took on the role of Chair in 2024.

Cari grew up in Cardiff, studied law at Nottingham University and then returned to Cardiff for her post grad Legal Practice Course. After joining Hugh James in 2005, Cari quailed as a solicitor in 2008 and now jointly heads up the National Serious Injury Team.

Cari is mum of two and enjoys all things sporty and musical!

Nicola Sinclair

Nicola joined the board as our new Treasurer in May 2022. She has an Accountancy / Financial Services background. Nicola currently works at RWK Goodman as Accounts Manager in their Compensation Protection Team.
When Nicola’s not working or studying she enjoys plenty of outdoor hobbies such as walking ( both beach & countryside ), cycling, & horse-riding & is currently learning a little Dressage )

Jeff Mayle

Jeff worked in IT for many years at University’s in Newport & Pontypridd, and is able to support the Board with expertise in this area. Jeff himself sustained a serious brain injury when he fell off a skateboard as a 17 year old. Although Jeff has made a remarkable recovery, he has first hand knowledge of the long-lasting effects of brain injury and is able to represent our service users.
Vicky Richards

Vicky Richards is the Clinical Nurse Team Leader of the Community Brain Injury Team based at Rookwood Hospital. She is also a specialist Case Manager and qualified Counsellor, having worked with ABI survivors for over 20 years. Vicky became a Trustee in early 2014.
Sarah Jones
Sarah JonesTrustee
Sarah is an Occupational Therapist with over 30 years’ experience, mainly working with clients with ABI. This was both in hospital settings and the Community Brain Injury team. She is also a Specialist Case Manager. She joined the Board of Trustees in March 2020.
Joanna Pickford
Joanna PickfordTrustee
Jo joined the board as a Trustee in March 2017. As a specialist social worker, she has a vast experience in working with people with Acquired Brain Injury. She is a fully qualified counsellor and provides weekly sessions for our members on a voluntary basis.
Clive Brown
Clive BrownTrustee
Clive has been volunteering at the Independence and Welfare Centre since November 2018 after retiring from Cardiff University where he worked as a Quality Assurance Officer. He sustained a subarachnoid haemorrhage in 2014 and joined the Board of Trustees in April 2023.

A massive sports fan, Clive agonises over the fluctuating fortunes of Cardiff City, Llanishen RFC, Lisvane Cricket Club and the mighty Margate Football Club (his boyhood team).

Having dabbled with the arts on retirement, Clive has made fleeting appearances in tv series like Casualty, Sex Education, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Black Cake and Industry.

Angela Mayle

Angela is a Social Worker and the Team Manager for the Contact and Assessment Team in Cardiff Social Services. She has 25 years experience with Adults with disabilities, including ABI. Angela has a personal interest in ABI owing to experience supporting her brother, Jeff, another Trustee. She also volunteered for the Headway Day Centre in Rookwood, before becoming a Social Worker, many years ago. Angela is a passionate about cars and the gym.
Ian Cranidge

Ian has a background as a Sales Manager in retail, with approximately 14 years of experience. He sustained a traumatic brain injury in a motorcycle accident in 2021 and has been a proud member of Headway Cardiff since 2022. Ian has a keen interest in classic car shows and often fundraises for us at these events. Appointed as a Trustee in April 2025, his personal experience with brain injury, combined with his kindness and compassion, makes him well-suited to represent our service users.
Nerys Evans

Nerys Evans is an experienced HR leader with over 20 years of shaping people strategies and driving cultural change across global organisations. Currently Head of HR for EMEA & India at Eastman Chemical Company, she has led major initiatives in talent development, employee engagement, and business transformation across a range of sectors including chemicals, tech, and manufacturing.
She holds a degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Glamorgan and is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.

Outside of work, Nerys is a proud mum to two children and enjoys creative activities, reading crime fiction, travelling, and keeping active through fitness.

Jason Lloyd is an Independent Financial Adviser and Operations Manager at Hugh James. He has over 15 years’ experience and specialises in providing wealth and estate planning advice to recipients of personal injury & clinical negligence awards, trustees and professional deputies – supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society.
Growing up in Pembrokeshire the coast became his first adventure, sparking a lifelong passion for travelling the world, chasing food, culture and new experiences. Friends and family are at the centre of his life. He takes pride in being present, dependable, and full of energy. Jason is a keen music and Formula 1 enthusiast.
